At MYVP, we talk about creating a community where newly arrived young people are supported to achieve their goals and aspirations – a community where young people know that they matter and a community which matters to these young people.

To explore what this would look like, we asked members of Youth Advisory Council to write a postcard to a friend telling them about the Brisbane they would like to introduce them to.  Here are some of their responses:

“I would like to introduce you to Brisbane, a place where opportunities are endless and the people are genuine.”

“A Brisbane that is culturally inclusive, a city that you walk in and feel at home, where you feel loved, involved and included.”

“A Brisbane which thrives on diversity and is a world cultural centre.”

“In this community we take time to accompany and encourage each other, young are able to dialogue with the older people in the creation of strong neighbourhoods.”

“I hope that you will be able to see a city full of people who talk to one another, full of one diverse community which celebrates individuality and gains new ideas and builds on them so that future generations will be open-minded.”

“Rivers represent movement and change, and I think Brisbane reflects that.”

“Everyone in here wakes up with a hope and an idea of better future.”

“Don’t worry about being new; we will welcome you with love and enthusiasm.”

MYVP Youth Engagement Officer Anna said these sentiments capture the passion and commitment of the young leaders who make up our Youth Advisory Council. We’re excited to be working alongside such an insightful and dynamic group of people committed to making a real difference.
